SelfHostTools Newsletter

Weekly self-hosted repos worth your time

SelfHostTools sends one short email a week with a handful of self-hosted GitHub projects that look worth opening, cloning, or at least bookmarking.

The filter is stricter than stars. A repo can be popular and still be a weekend toy, abandoned after one big launch thread, or painful to run anywhere outside the maintainer's laptop. I look for projects with active commits, clear docs, Docker or Compose support where it makes sense, release notes that are not empty, and a use case a small team or solo builder might actually have.

Each issue keeps the list small. You get a few picks, plain commentary, useful context, and caveats when a project looks promising but rough. That might mean an admin panel with no hosted demo, a great tool that still needs manual setup, or a repo that is moving fast enough to watch before you trust it with production data.

Fewer links, better picks, less time lost in GitHub search.
